I used a Yamaha sound font and the Doom theme never sounded so good.

One simply MUST love the music from the Doom franchise, sounds so much like early thrash metal like Exodus, Testament and the like, and not all that different from a new Thrash metal band from Norway called Tantara. But I digress, and to answer your question, no I don't meddle with midi.

But this is awesome, and I want more, it was also hillarious wathcing your avatar while listening to that tune.

I was discussing midi fonts with my younger brother the other day and bemoaning the fact that with the sound fonts in software you get these days and minimal hardware midi support, a lot of the impact of classic game and other midis is lost.

I mean "piano midi designed to sound soft and 'realistic' so it's 'softened' in tone and muddied out to eliminate any buzz"? GTFO

I've messed around with the software organ Hauptwerk a bit, on top of all the other digital instrument stuff I try to do. Hauptwerk is pretty awesome, full sample set recorded on actual organs including the room reverb and little nuances like the air blower, baffles opening and closing, and full control panels. I got to the point of being able to change the manual settings within a MIDI file, but it's a lot of manual editing.

I used a crappy organ synth on a song my band recorded (nearly a decade ago now, I'm old), and I'm hoping to use it to replace it and give a fuller, grander sound.

Thanks! Actually some Doom songs were inspired by thrash metal bands like Slayer and Metallica.

I know :) Bobby Prince stated in some interview that he was quite influenced by that genre when he made the score for Doom.

Love me some Doom and its music.

That's a good version. I prefer the less guitar sounding versions. Not sure how to describe it, more "computer" sounding?
